Neurofeedback Brain Training
A BETTER BRAIN FOR A BETTER YOU
What if the difference between how you feel today and the relief you are looking for, was simply in teaching your brain a more efficient way of being?
Neurofeedback therapy is a non-invasive, non-medication modality that trains the brain to perform better. By improving the way your nervous system regulates itself, it is possible to physically change the way your brain works—for good.
How does brain training work?
Neurofeedback Brain Training therapy is a non-invasive modality similar to putting a mirror up in front of the brain, “feeding” the information “back” and adjusting the stimuli to teach the brain to correct itself and perform better.
Brain training takes place in a very relaxed environment over the course of 25-30, 50-minute sessions. In the first 3-5 sessions, we work to analyze the current state of your brain and benchmark what is and is not working. No brain is the same, so we use this information to determine the specific protocols that will work best for you.
From there, we train the brain through repetition. This improves neuroplasticity, creating new pathways that lead to improved performance, decreased stress, and long-term symptom relief.
-
Step 1: Connect electrodes
EEG electrodes are placed on your head in targeted locations specific to your goals and the areas of the brain we are training.
-
Step 2: Receive feedback
We’ll watch your brain perform in real time based on the EEG activity. As the brain watches itself perform, it realizes it is in control of the feedback you are watching.
-
Step 3: Make adjustments
Based on what you are feeling and experiencing during your session, we can make adjustments to the stimuli in order to help your brain feel more calm, alert, content, and relaxed. This translates to how your brain will feel and perform after your session(s).
Frequently Asked Questions about Neurofeedback Therapy
Q: How many sessions are needed for neurofeedback therapy?
A: If you’re wondering how often you need neurofeedback therapy, the answer is, it depends! Brain training is most effective if clients are committed to at least 25-30 sessions. Most clients choose to come once to twice per week, but others prefer an “intensive” format in which we complete multiple sessions per week over a shorter period of time. Please contact me to discuss what format is best for you.
Q: What is a brain training session like?
A: Sessions take place in a very relaxed environment. After I place the electrodes, you choose what you would like to watch (or a video game to play) while we receive feedback from the brain that is shown on the screen. At the same time as we are brain training, we’ll also incorporate traditional talk therapy, breaking negative thought patterns, reducing anxiety or depression, and developing coping skills that help you show up better in every facet of your life. You get the benefits of both kinds of therapy in a single session.
Q: Does neurofeedback therapy have negative side effects or risks?
A: The EEG technology used is very low risk and has no negative long term side effects.
Q: How much does neurofeedback therapy cost?
A: Self-pay session fee is $180 per session. I also participate with Blue Cross Blue Shield and am out-of-network with all other insurances. If out-of-network, I can provide a superbill so you can file your own insurance and most of these insurance carriers reimburse a portion of the session fee
